I think it was in the seventies that there was a serial on TV called "Edge Of Darkness". Had a brilliant theme tune. I think that Eric Clapton wrote and played it. I remember him playing it at the Albert Hall some years later.
Also there was an american serial called "Route 66"that had a great jazz theme. Both on You Tube.
